Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)

WSET is the world’s largest provider of wine and spirits qualifications and is trusted by leading drinks organisations globally. WSET qualifications are highly sought after and are accessible for both consumers and professionals working in hospitality and for those looking to develop a career in the wine trade. WSET Qualifications are certified by Ofqual. Successful candidates receive a WSET Awards Certificate and lapel pin for their chosen qualification. Candidates must be at least 18 years old.

WSET Classroom Courses

Learn about wine in a relaxed classroom environment with expert tuition from WSET Certified Educator Rebecca. Classroom learning is hugely interactive and a great fun way to study about wine. Class sizes are limited to ensure personable tuition.

Classroom courses are usually held at the Exeter Community Centre in central Exeter, Devon UK. Other South West venues are used from time to time. If you have a group of six or more candidates, please contact Rebecca to discuss in-house WSET training.

Examination will take place on the last day of the course. Successful candidates will receive a WSET Award Certificate and lapel pin.

 

WSET Level 1 Course Wines

WSET Level 1 Award in Wines – Classroom Course

Join this fun and interactive one-day introductory wine course to learn about key grape varieties and wines from around the world. Identify major wine styles and discover the basics of food and wine pairing, plus how best to store and serve wine. Learn how to taste like a professional using the WSET systematic approach to tasting. Gain confidence in selecting wines. Perfect for beginners and those starting a career in hospitality or the wine trade.

Course Duration:  One Day from 9:30am until 5pm

Cost:   £230 includes WSET L1 Wines study book, 10 x Wine Tasting Samples, Classroom Tuition & Paper Exam Fee.

Join this fun and interactive one-day introductory spirits course to learn about key spirits from around the world. Identify major spirit types and styles, and discover the basics of cocktail-making. WSET Level 2 Course Wines

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines – Classroom Course

This intermediate level three-day wine course provides in-depth global knowledge about major grape varieties and wine regions of the world. Understand wine labels to differentiate wine styles including still, sparkling, and fortified wines. Discover food and wine matching and how to taste like a professional using the WSET systematic approach tasting. Improve your confidence in selecting wines and making food and wine pairing recommendations. This course is ideal for anyone wishing to develop their wine knowledge as an enthusiast or those working in hospitality or the wine trade. 

Course Duration: Three Days from 9:30am until 5pm

WSET Level 2 Spirits

WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits – Classroom Course

This intermediate level three-day spirits course provides in-depth knowledge about the major spirits of the world. It focuses on the main production methods and principal raw materials used to make the key styles of spirits. Develop professional spirit tasting skills using the WSET systematic approach to tasting to be able to describe and assess spirits with confidence. Learn the art of making cocktails. Ideal for anyone wishing to develop their spirits knowledge as an enthusiast, or someone working in hospitality or a drinks business.

Course Duration: Three Days from 9:30am until 5pm

Cost:   £540 includes WSET L2 study pack, 30 x Spirit Tasting Samples, Classroom Tuition & Paper Exam Fee

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines – Classroom Course

Join this six-day advanced wine course to gain detailed knowledge about the major wine-producing regions of the world. Discover the natural and human factors that contribute to the style, quality and price of wines. Develop analytical tasting skills using the WSET systematic approach to tasting in order to describe wines accurately and with confidence. Suitable for wine connoisseurs and those working in a supervisory role for a drinks organisation or hospitality venue.

Course Duration:  6 Days from 9:30am until 5:30pm + ½ Day Examination 9:30am – 12:30pm

Cost:   £950 includes WSET L3 study pack, 80 x Wine Tasting Samples, Classroom Tuition & Paper Exam Fee

Online Courses

Learn about wine or spirits from the comfort of your home by accessing WSET qualifications online via the WSET Digital Learning platform called Canvas. Online learning is fun with easy-to-follow modules and quizzes, plus the support of an online educator.

Examination will take place after the course has finished. A classroom exam is included in the course fee or students can opt to do a remote invigilation online exam for a small extra charge.

Successful candidates will receive a WSET Award Certificate and lapel pin specific to their qualification. 

WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits – Online Course

This beginner level online spirits course teaches about the main types and styles of spirits of the world including their raw materials.  Learn key production techniques and develop basic spirits tasting skills using the WSET systemic approach to tasting. Select spirits with confidence and explore several cocktail recipes, plus tips on making cocktails. This basic introduction to global spirits will benefit spirit enthusiasts and professionals working in hospitality jobs.

Course Duration: 90 hours over 9 weeks + 4 x Optional Online Tasting Tutorials at £40 each

Cost:  £695 includes Online course access, WSET online educator support, 2 hour Tasting Tutorial with 6 wine samples & Paper Exam Fee.

Private Tuition

Rebecca offers private tuition for students who require more personalised one-to-one support. This is a great way to focus on specific wine or spirit topics of interest and prepare for an exam. Private tuition is charged at £45 per hour plus the cost of any bottles opened for tasting purposes. This can take place online via Zoom or in person at a venue in Exeter on a mutually convenient date.

WSET Bursaries via The Drinks Trust:

The Drinks Trust charity has partnered with the WSET and its selected network of Approved Programme Providers (APPs) to deliver WSET course programmes and exams to reach potential UK students who would otherwise be unable to take a WSET qualification. Through the DEVELOP Education and Training Programme they offer WSET Bursaries and support for young professionals working in hospitality or the drinks trade. DEVELOP aims to provide resources, bursaries and access to fully funded training with internationally recognised providers and support to those seeking a new and rewarding role in drinks hospitality.

Rebecca Mitchell has recently become a DEVELOP Educational Provider offering classroom-based and online courses to those seeking funding for their chosen qualification. Applicants to the DEVELOP programme must be over 18 years old, have a UK bank account, National Insurance number, Right to work in the UK, Be earning less than £26k/pa base salary, with no excessive savings. All applications are reviewed by The Drinks Trust on an individual basis and are subject to basic criterial and means-tested checks. Beneficiaries will have their WSET course fully-funded by The Drinks Trust.
